Application process for graduates of Canadian accredited programs


All new graduates (within past 5 years) from Canadian Accredited programs must register for and write the National Canadian Entry-To-Practice exam (CETP) at the next sitting of the exam administered by Speech and Audiology Canada: see exam schedule here: sac-oac.ca/cetp-exams

You are eligible for a temporary licence with NSCASLP as long as you are eligible to write the exam as set out in the conditional enrollment requirements conditions outlined on the SAC website: Writing the CETP Exam

Once you have passed the exam, you will qualify for a full practising licence. 


To Apply for Licensure:

❏ Complete online application

  • Select the “I am a graduate of a Canadian accredited program” menu item on the NSCASLP website www.nscaslp.ca
  • Select the category "New graduate from Canadian accredited program" on the member portal of this website:   Member Portal
  • Complete the personal information fields 
  • Send an email to admin@nscaslp.ca  to arrange a videocall to confirm your identification
  • Non-Canadian Citizens:  If you are a non-Canadian citizen who has graduated from an accredited Canadian program, you must upload proof that you are eligible to work in Canada in order to be eligible for licensure (i.e. A landed permanent residency card or work permit).
  • Pay the application fee of $100 

❏ Official Transcripts

NOTE: If your degree has not yet been conferred, but you have completed the academic and clinical requirements of your program, request a letter from your university program stating when you completed the program requirements and the anticipated convocation date. This letter must be sent to NSCASLP directly by the University.

❏ Supervised Clinical Practice Hours

    • Request confirmation of supervised clinical practice hours be submitted to NSCASLP by the University.

❏ English Language Proficiency

    • For applicants who are registered in a jurisdiction where English is not the required language of proficiency (e.g. Quebec):
      • Provide evidence of meeting the English Language Proficiency Requirement: Graduated from an English university program; or results from a third-party assessment (e.g. TOEFL (iBT) or IELTS (ACor GC) ( TOEFL - IELTS)

NOTE: Results from third-party assessment must be sent directly to NSCASLP - TOEFL (iBT) or IELTS (AC or GC).

❏ Criminal Record Check

  • Provide an original copy of a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check dated within 6 months and upload to your registrant profile.  A digital criminal records check that can be authenticated is also acceptable.

❏ Pay Licence Fee

  • Pay licence fee of $500 when advised by the Registrar that all documents have been received.

❏ Submit Proof of Professional Liability Insurance (PLI)

  • Professional liability insurance in the amount of $2 million is required before you can be licensed but is not required at the time you begin your application. Once you have obtained insurance, complete the PLI section in your registrant profile and upload the certificate of insurance or the “Insurance Attestation Form” if PLI is provided by your employer.

  • Applications are processed within 10 business days once all required documents and payment are received.

Change of Status from Temporary to Practising:

    • Request official convocated graduate transcripts be sent directly to NSCASLP.

NOTE: not required if transcripts were submitted at the time of application.

❏ Exam Results

  • Exam results are sent to the Registrar from SAC
